I travelled to the Golden Plough Festival expecting to learn more about horse ploughing and Australia's draught horse community. What I found was far more meaningful. Over two days at Peak Hill, I discovered a welcoming community dedicated to preserving traditional horsemanship, working horse skills and a way of life that is slowly disappearing. From watching beautifully turned-out draught horse teams work the paddocks to hearing stories from the people keeping these traditions alive, the weekend reminded me why Australia's equine heritage deserves to be celebrated. More than a competition, the Golden Plough Festival felt like coming home.
